AMPELOS, STANICE VINAŘSKÁ VRBOVEC, s.r.o. was registered in the commercial register in January 1993 and successfully continued the activities of the Znojmo breeding and research wine workplace.
It is the oldest breeding workplace in the Czech Republic and one of the oldest in the world. AMPELOS in Vrbovec continues its breeding activities even today. It is engaged in breeding new grape varieties
which would be early and give grapes with high sugar content. On the leased land of AMPELOS, maintenance breeding of 30 grape varieties is carried out. There is also a national vine gene pool. It cooperates closely with the Research Institute of Plant Production in Prague and leading experts in viticulture and winemaking abroad (VCR Rauschedo Italy, Steimann Reben GmbH Germany). In 2003, the program of testing the original Moravian grape varieties was also completed.
It plants another spatial isolate for the cured virulent best our original clones of almost all grape varieties registered in the State Variety Book. It also plants German and Italian tested clones.
In Vrbovec there is also a cellar farm, which is used, among other things, to verify the results of breeding activities.
Under the AMPELOS brand, it produces a limited number of desirable varietal wines, which are sought after especially by lovers and connoisseurs of good wines. The winery has achieved many successes in both domestic and international wine competitions, which certainly include annual successes at the most prestigious wine competition in Europe, the AWC Vienna.
