Wine was not cultivated in the town and its surroundings, although attempts were made around the 16th century to plant vineyards around Hradisko and Kosíř . The houses were located in the most important streets in the city. In the 18th century there were 61 such houses. Wine was not allowed to be sold anywhere else, and foreign wine merchants were only allowed to come twice a year with wine to the annual market. As early as the 15th century, a guild of wine merchants was founded, and their privileges were confirmed by King Louis Jagiellon in 1523. The wine merchants maintained their privileged position until the end of the 18th century. However, over time, the number of wine houses declined and in the 1930s there were only 10 wine houses.
Even today, wine still thrives in some historic houses and we can drink wine there as in the old days and become another wine history of Olomouc.
