More medals for Moravian wines for Sauvignons and rosés

Our winemakers have long been successful in competitions with the Concours Mondial label and this year is no different. In March, two themed competitions were held and Moravian winemakers celebrated medal successes at both of them. They won four medals at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles Rosé Wine Session and ten medals at the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon. Participation in the competition was financially supported by the Wine Fund and organised by the National Wine Centre.

Concours Mondial du Sauvignon

The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles Rosé Wine Session was perfectly timed for the beginning of spring, before the upcoming rosé season. 1150 rosé wines from 25 countries competed in Montpellier, South of France, and Moravian wines won 1 grand gold, 1 gold and 2 silver medals. This was followed by a competition dedicated exclusively to the Sauvignon variety - Concours Mondial du Sauvignon, which was held outside Europe for the first time this year. From Franschhoek, South Africa, our winemakers impressed in a competition of 1210 winemakers from 20 countries, taking home 4 gold and 6 silver medals. Both competitions are organised by VINOPRES, based in Brussels.

"The Consours Mondial is one of the big, well-known and above all respected international wine competitions. Each medal is a sign of quality and has great marketing and commercial value not only as an export promotion but also for domestic customers, on our domestic market. Moravian and Czech rosé wines have been very popular for a long time and it is good that they are also making their mark on the international scene, where there is a strong trend in their consumption, e.g. In the UK they already account for around 30% of the market, so there is great potential in their creation. Sauvignon is one of the most popular grape varieties in the world and our winemakers will be successful there too. Another pleasing factor is that medals are not only won by large wineries, but also by smaller, family-owned ones," comments Ing. Dagmar Fialová, Marketing Director of the National Wine Centre.

Concours Mondial de Bruxelles Rosé Wine Session

Concours Mondial de Bruxelles Rosé Wine Session is part of one of the largest and most prestigious international wine competitions Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. It takes place before the beginning of spring and is entirely dedicated to rosé wines, responding to the growing interest of consumers. The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is divided into 4 sessions. In May, the main part dedicated to red and white wines will be followed by thethen in June, sparkling wines, and concluding in September with sweet and fortified wines.

Concours Mondial du Sauvignon

In addition, the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon, which is considered the unofficial world championship of the Sauvignon variety, is held separately. It is designed to present it to the public as a versatile grape variety and to promote the quality wines produced from it, to increase their production and to encourage sensible drinking. The Sauvignon variety enjoys worldwide recognition and popularity at both consumer and commercial level. In order to ensure the high standard of the competition and the maximum satisfaction of the general wine-loving public, the organisers of thethe award-winning wines are followed up after the competition by comparing them with anonymously purchased samples from the same batch.
