Moravian and Czech wines bring home an incredible 119 medals from London

At the 20th anniversary edition of the festival. The 20th edition of the largest and most prestigious international wine competition Decanter World Wine Awards, traditionally held in London, Moravian and Czech wines once again made their presence felt. In an incredible and this year again record competition of more than eighteen thousand wines from all over the world, they won an impressive 119 medals, including 4 gold ones. The participation of our winemakers was financially supported by the Wine Fund and organized by the National Wine Centre.

Gold medals for their wines went to the wineries Thaya, Portz Insel, Bohemia Sekt and for red wine, from the traditional Moravian variety Frankovka, also Vinselekt Michlovský. The most medals were awarded to the B\V winery from the South Moravian town of Ratíškovice, which can boast 10 silver and 35 bronze medals. Out of a total of 119 medals, Moravian and Czech winemakers won 4 gold, 29 silver and 86 bronze medals.

The Decanter World Wine Awards represent the absolute highest level of wine competitions in the world. Fifteen days, three rounds of judging, exceptional rigour, judged by Master of Wine and Master Sommelier title holders, 18,250 wines from 57 countries across the wine world... "To win a gold medal, a minimum of 95 points out of 100 is required, a rating that most winemakers will never achieve during their career, and these are points awarded by a super league of world tasters. And only a little less wine must achieve for silver and bronze medals," said Ing. Dagmar Fialová, Marketing Director of the National Wine Centre, added with undisguised enthusiasm: "more than a hundred medals for our wines is not an isolated achievement, but rather the rule in recent years. But this joy and great representation of our entire winery never gets old."

18,250 wines from 57 countries

Over two weeks in London, 236 of the world's top wine experts from 30 countries, including 53 Master of Wine holders and 16 Master Sommeliers, judged an incredible 18,250 wines from 57 countries. For the third year in a row, the highest number of entries has been surpassedn (18,094 in 2021 and 18,244 in 2022), making the Decanter World Wine Awards a truly extraordinary competition, not only in terms of the number of entries. Founded in 2004 by the prestigious British wine and spirits magazine, this year's competition celebrates its 20th anniversary.
