The prime aim of this event is to support sale and production of mass and kosher wines, mediating the exchange of experience in the field of viticulture and deepening of business and social relations between wine dealers and consumers. Also, this event will contribute to cultural exchange. 
Only wines that are in accordance with valid legal regulations and are recognized as mass or kosher wines can apply for the competition. The competition will be made up of four categories: 
-	still white wine with no regard to residual sugar 
-	still rosé wine with no regard to residual sugar 
-	still red wine with no regard to residual sugar 
-	ice wine, straw wine, selection of grapes (reserve wine) and selection of cibet 
 
Every participant is supposed to submit two copies of the application form and samples in three adjusted bottles to the collection point: Fara Velehrad, Stojanovo nádvoří 206, 687 06 Velehrad, 
Czech Republic. 
 
The deadline for submission is 25 October 2007. The evaluation will take place on 28 October 2007 and the exhibition as well as the award ceremony is scheduled for 3 November 2007 in the premises of the Stojan Gymnasium in Velehrad. For the evaluation the 100 - point O.I.V. system will be used. Winners that are unable to attend the ceremony will be notified by mail. 
 
Awarded wines will be entitled to use the mark of the pertinent seal with which the successful participants (winners) will be provided on the basis of their order to MATICE VELEHRADSKÁ and after they pay expenses related with its manufacture and distribution.

From the past to the present. 
Wine making in Moravia is among the most ancient in Europe. Grapevines have been cultivated here since the time of the Romans, and nowhere else in the world will you find so many small wine cellars as right here in Moravia. By the time of the Middle Ages, Moravian wines already had a good name. They were supplied to the noble houses of the Czech Kingdom, and there was interest in them from Poland and Silesia. In Vienna, and even Champagne in France, wines from Moravia were used for their qualities as coupage in the making of champagne. Wine making is the breath of life for the people who live in Southern 
Moravia. In the heraldry of the aristocratic families and cities there are frequently bunches of grapes, vine leaves or viticulture knives. Extensive colonies of cellars were built in the neighbourhood of the wine-growing villages, adding up to hundreds of buildings that have been preserved to this day, and which offer guests the opportunity to sit and taste a glass of the local wine. 
Every village has at least one winemaking or folk event during the year. Over the last few decades Moravian wine making has undergone revolutionary changes. Vineyards are ecologically maintained, most of the companies have installed waste-free technologies for grape processing, and Moravian wine makers regularly win awards at international exhibitions. 
 
Wines and wine varieties 
Moravian white wines have a characteristically wide range of attractive elements and well-balanced harmony between full body and fresh acidity. This is thanks to the unique natural conditions ideal for growing white wine varieties. The red wines, thanks to modern technological processes, are full and bold, noticeable for fruity, smooth velvety tones in their flavour and bouquet. The 18,500ha of vineyards in Moravia grow 42 kinds of grape for wine making, including famous international varieties, but also domestic grapes such as Pálava, Moravian muškát or Cabernet Moravia which you can only get from Moravian wine makers. And this is a good reason to visit! 
 
Moravian wine trails – through the wine region by bicycle 
A one thousand and ninety kilometre long network of cycling trails weaves through Southern Moravia. The trails wind between the vineyards and do not miss a single tourist site. They run on quiet roads, in places on field or forest routes, and over well marked terrain. The Tourist Information Centres sell maps and guides. You can bring your own bike, or rent one in Moravia. 
The Moravian wine region is divided into four sub-regions. The westernmost is Znojmo, where the typical wine variety is Veltlinské Zelené, made world famous by the Šobes vineyard in the conservation area of Podyjí National Park. To the east lies Mikulov, from which comes the excellent Ryzlink Vlašský. The castle cellars in Mikulov hold a giant cask with the respectable capacity of 26,871 gallons of wine, and in Valtice you can taste the hundred best wines from the premier national wine competition in the Salon vín České Republiky (Wine Salon of the Czech Republic) exhibition. The third sub-region is Velké Pavlovice, known by Moravian wine makers as the heart of red wines. This is justified. In the east, near the border with Slovakia, we find Slovacko. Here all the folk traditions are still maintained, and running into a parade of people in folk costume during one of the celebrations is not at all rare.

Southern Moravia, wandering through the wine region

The world-famous exhibition of wine and distilled spirits was held in Düsseldorf, Germany from 16 to 18 March 2008, and Moravian and Bohemian wines were represented there for the third time as part of the Czech Republic’s official exhibit. Once again, this year the Czech stand (E20) was in hall number three. The participation of individual Czech firms received support for the most part from the Winemakers’ Fund. Presenting their wines were the companies Bohemia Sekt, a.s, Moravské vinařské závody Bzenec, s.r.o., the wine cooperative Templářské sklepy Čejkovice and Bohemia Canopus, spol. s.r.o – the family winery of René Vrátil. Organizing the national stand again this year was the National Wine Centre, which also arranged a general presentation of Moravian and Bohemian wines. Compared with last year, the size of the exhibit was enlarged to 78 m². 
 
The ProWein trade fair is one of the biggest and most popular wine fairs in the world. Participating at this year’s fair were 3,109 exhibitors from 46 countries and more than 32,000 visiting experts. “In the course of three days, the Czech Republic’s exhibit had several hundred visitors, so we can say that it really was a success,” said Mr. Pavel Večeřa, who participated representing the Winemakers’ Fund. 
 
Like every year, this year’s fair also included a tasting zone where each visitor could sample from among nearly a thousand selected wines. Among the white wines presented were dry wines of the 2006 and 2007 vintages with an alcohol content of up to 12 % (light, fruity and strongly aromatic wines are favored at present both by consumers and merchants). Among the red wines represented were blends of autochthonous varieties. Two Czech wines from the Mikrosvín Mikulov winery received awards from the jury of experts. Green Veltliner 2006 received one star as a wine with a good quality-price ratio and Miller Thurgau 2006 received two stars as very good.

BOHEMIA SEKT 
 
For the fifth time, BOHEMIA SEKT presented its finest wines at the international wine trade fair ProWein in Düsseldorf. This, the most important Czech producer of sparkling wine, represents more than 70% of the sparkling wine market share in the Czech Republic. It is also a major exporter to 14 countries. Because of the quality of its products, its dynamic growth and its constantly growing international recognition, it is counted among the most important producers in Central and Eastern Europe. 
Wines and sparkling wines from the BOHEMIA SEKT group boast numerous important awards at international and domestic wine competitions and exhibitions. The brand Bohemia Sekt is also classified among the 100 most important brands in the Czech Republic. 
 
BOHEMIA SEKT presented its products as part of the national exhibit. This is a strong Bohemian and Moravian wine business that is not only constantly strengthening its position as a powerful player on the Czech market, but is also maintaining a stable position within the entire Central European region. 
 
 
The Moravian company Moravské vinařské závody Bzenec and the Mikrosvín Mikulov Winery 
 
Moravské vinařské závody Bzenec is one of the leading producers of Moravian wines in the Czech Republic. The company’s wines have earned top honors at prestigious wine competitions around the world (Vinitaly, Mondial Selection Brusel, DECANTER World Wine Award etc.). 
The Mikrosvín Mikulov Winery is famous for the production of a small quantity of wines from the unique Pálava terroir. The winery’s offerings are mainly intended for the top gastronomy segment. 
 
At the ProWein trade fair, Moravské vinařské závody Bzenec presented and offered Moravian wines that are typical for the Central European winemaking region with the traditional Moravian varieties – Welschriesling, Green Veltliner and Műller Thurgau. The company also presented typical representatives of Moravian rosé and red wines. 
 
 
Bohemia Canopus, spol. s.r.o. 
 
The Vrátil family winery is part of the company Bohemia Canopus spol. s r.o. with its headquarters in Starovice u Hustopečí. It was founded in 2004 and has focused mainly on producing high-quality wines from its own vineyards. The vineyards, with an area of 32 ha, are in the Velkopavlovice wine subregion. The company’s vineyards grow in a mixture of sandy and aeolian clay soils. This family winery takes great care in the selection of high-quality grapes. As the young wine grower René J. Vrátil, a recent graduate of university studies in Geisenheim, Germany, says: “Quality arises only at a vineyard.” This is known as genius loci, meaning the combination of location, soil, climate and the person caring for it, resulting in an unmistakable wine. 
 
Bohemia Canopus, spol. s.r.o. was a part of the national exhibition of wines at the trade fair for the first time. The family winery presented Moravian varietal wines that are clean, fresh and typical for the Velkopavlovice wine subregion – Pinot Noir, Green Veltliner, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc and St. Laurent. 
 
 
Templářské sklepy Čejkovice (Templar Wine Cellars), wine cooperative 
 
The Čejkovice Templar Wine Cellars are following in the traditions of their historic roots, undoubtedly connected with the arrival with the order of the Knights Templar in the 13th century. The company focuses on top quality wines through the careful selection of the best quality grapes, mainly from the Velkopavlovice wine subregion and Moravian Slovakia. Grapes from the selected members of the wine cooperative allow the production of limited batches of varietals, wines with special attributes, ice wines and straw wines. From the grapes grown at its own vineyards, the company produces mainly top quality vintage wines and wines with special attributes. 
 
The company went to the trade fair ProWein to present its best varietal white wines – Traminer, Sauvignon and Pinot gris. Also represented at the fair were the red wines Pinot Noir, Cabernet Moravia and Blauer Portugieser.{fotogalerie foto_aktuality_1149}
