VINOFORUM continues in its quest to compare the quality of wines of Central Europe with those from the rest of the world and to promote the culture of wine even in non-producing regions. VINOFORUM 2010 comes to the Moravian-Silesian metropolis. 
 
VINOFORUM 2010 OSTRAVA has been organised with the support of the Wine Fund of the Czech Republic and in cooperation with the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava, the Union of Winemakers of the Czech Republic, the National Wine Centre and the K.A.H.A.N. association of Ostrava, which is the organiser of CUVÉE OSTRAVA, the specialised wine contest of brands and blended wines only, which this year takes place within the framework of VINOFORUM 2010 OSTRAVA. 
 
At the beginning of June (3rd-4th) 2010 in the north of Moravia juries consisting of several dozen leading wine tasters not only from Europe but overseas will meet. The Czech Republic will be represented in each committee by one experienced oenologist. Independent of these evaluations by the specialised juries, the competition samples will at the same time be appraised by committees made up of members of the lay public as well as by a committee comprised of members of FIJEV (International Federation of Journalists and Writers on Wine). The first weekend of June (5th-6th 2010) all the competing wines will be displayed for a grand tasting by the general public in the context of the announcement of the competition results in the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava (formerly Hotel Atom). “Participation in the preceding competition is not a condition for winemakers or wine merchants to be present at this weekend exhibition, whose visitors will certainly have plenty of wine to choose from,“ as organiser Martin Křístek reminds us.

VINOFORUM this year in Ostrava, 3rd – 6th June 2010

The ProWein exhibition is one of the biggest and most popular wine shows in the world. This year the organisers expect 3 000 exhibitors and more than 33 000 expert visitors. 
 
The Czech exposition (3E20) will be placed in the Hall No 3 and will be financed mostly from the Winegrowers’ Fund. The wines will represent the production of Bohemia Sekt, a.s, Templářské sklepy Čejkovice – wine kooperative, Nové vinařství, a.s. and the Petr Skoupil Winery. The central information stall about the Moravian and Bohemian wines will be arranged by professionals from the Winegrowers’ Fund and the National Wine Centre. 
 
“Our participation in ProWein, one of the most significant wine shows in the world, was in the past always successful from the view point of general presentations of our wines abroad as well as from the view point of commercial success of wineries that take part in the National Stall”, said Mr. Pavel Krška, Director of the National Wine Centre that organises the Stall and together with the Winegrowers’ Fund they will organise presentation of our wines. “It is a very interesting deed for image making of our wine abroad, similarly as the success of our wines at the most prestigious world competitions,” he added. 
 
This year will bring a new introduction of wines from the Czech Republic in the form of supervised wine-tasting directly in the Czech national exposition and is focused especially on wine-businessmen and journalists. It will be held on March 21 and 22 always from 2 p.m. It will include an introduction of Moravian and Bohemian wine-growing and tasting of 10 typical wines from the Czech Republic, including original varieties (e.g. Pálava and Aurelius) as well as ice and straw wines.

This year it is already for the seventh time when the BOHEMIA SEKT company will introduce Bohemia Sekt sparkling wines and wines of the brands Víno Mikulov, Habánské sklepy, Chateau Bzenec and Vinařství Pavlov at the international wine exhibition ProWein 2010 in Düsseldorf. 
The most important sparkling wine producer in the Czech Republic, which holds more than 70% share of the Czech market of sparkling wines, keeps strengthening its position of a strong player not only on the Czech market but it keeps its firm position in entire Central Europe. The company exports its products to almost 20 countries in the world. 
Their sparkling wines and wines win many prestigious awards every year. Let’s mention for example the silver medals for Louis Girardot brut, Bohemia Sekt Prestige brut and demi sec at the San Francisco International Wine Competition, the Bohemia Sekt Prestige brut also won a silver medal at the Vinalies Internationales in France. Their quiet wines were really successful at the Vinitaly in Verona and Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in France. 
 
Templářské sklepy Čejkovice, wine cooperative

The winery Templářské sklepy Čejkovice follows its historical roots that are without question connected with the coming of Templar Knight Order in the 13th century. This 4th biggest winery in the Czech Republic with the yearly sale of more than 7 million bottles is at the same time the biggest wine cooperative with 430 members and 1 000 ha of vineyards. The winery uses modern production technology as well as 750 year old cellars. The portfolio of wines offered is very wide; it includes quality, predicate, vintage and special wines. 
For the third time the winery will be presented on the ProWein show in Düsseldorf. After a successful entry to the Slovak market and penetration on the Polish market Templářské sklepy Čejkovice want to address visitors from North Europe who frequently visit this exhibition.

History of the family winery stretches back to the mid 19th century. The wine grower and maker Petr Skoupil has been operating the winery since 1992. It issues from the historic roots of wine-growing and making in the region of Velké Bílovice. However, the winery also seeks new ways to reach the top quality of wine. They carefully work on 35 ha of own vineyards emphasizing ecologically friendly techniques and reduced grape picking. Chemicals are used only to a limited extent. Grapes are carefully processed immediately after picking. Wine are produced from the cider via controlled fermentation, selected wine batches mature in barrels from French oak. The result is varietal clear and interesting predicate wines with a wide spectrum of primary aromatic agents and a distinct fruit character. The wines won many awards at the local and foreign competitions e.g. Vinalies Internationales, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, San Francisco International Wine Competition (Best of Nation 2x), Prague Wine Trophy, Mundus Vini. 
The Petr Skoupil Winery will take part in the ProWein 2010 fair for the first time and will introduce predicate wines as for example Pinot Gris, Müller Thurgau, Valtelina Green 2009, from the red wines Blue Portugal, Limberger (Frankovka) and Merlot 2008. 
 
Nové Vinařství, a.s.

NOVÉ VINAŘSTVÍ is among the most progressive wineries in the Czech Republic. It applies a modern approach to grape growing and wine making emphasizing quality of wine as well as quality of packaging. Nové Vinařství as the first in the Czech Republic used the modern screw locks and later also glass caps VÍNO–LOK. In 2007 it was awarded the prize “Managerial Deed of the Year in Design” that reflects enormous effort that the winery dedicates to emballage. 
NOVÉ VINAŘSTVÍ works on 110 ha of own vineyards near the Austrian border circa 70 km from Vienna. The vineyards are cultivated very carefully emphasizing the highest possible quality of grapes that means that one bush gives grapes approximately for one bottle of wine. Grapes are picked only manually. 
The winery produces only white and rosé wines. They are sold under the brands Cuveé – blend wines, Cépage – varietal wines, Léger – wines with low alcohol content, Murmure – sparkling and semi-sparkling wines and Jus de Cépage – grape ciders. 
During the four years of its existence Nové Vinařství won 10 medals at the prestigious London exhibition DECANTER WORLD WINE AWARDS and 8 medals at the CONCOURS MONDIAL DE BRUXELLES. 
 
The National Wine Centre / Wine Fund

The National Wine Centre is a non-profit organisation situated in the Valtice Chateau. It objective is the promotion and support of wine and viticulture of the Czech Republic, not only with the help of the competition and wine-tasting exposition of the Wine Salon of CR, but also via expert literature publishing, organising training courses and seminars as well as general promotion of Moravian and Bohemian wines in close cooperation with the Winegrowers’ Fund of the Czech Republic. 
Winegrowers’ Fund was established in 2002 on the basis of a change of the “Wine Act”. Prior to the entry of CR into EU its objective was to support planting of new vineyards in the wine-growing regions Moravia and Bohemia; nowadays it supports only wine marketing, wine tourism development and informs public about wine-growing and wine-making. The Winegrowers’ Fund works on similar basis as organisations in other European wine-growing countries.

Moravian and Bohemian wine-makers will again take part in the German ProWein exhibition

The National stand (No. I71) of wines from CR will be organised by the National Wine Centre with the ﬁnancial support of the Wine Fund. Besides these organisations two signiﬁcant wineries from CR will participate at the 
fair – BOHEMIA SEKT, a.s., and Templářské sklepy – wine cooperative. 
 
The Wine Fund and the National Wine Centre with this presentation follow the successful promotion of Moravian 
and Bohemian wines at the wine fairs abroad that were recently hold in Krakow (Poland), Bratislava (Slovakia) 
Düsseldorf (Germany) and in London.
