AGECOTEL is a gastronomic trade fair for professionals, which is held every year in the capital city of the Côte d‘Azur at the Palais des Expositions NICEXPO and is one of the most important events in the HoReCa calendar. The Espace Chefs alone features 35 chefs, many of whom have been awarded Michelin stars, while the patrons of the many culinary events are hand-picked from among renowned personalities like Léa Linster (Michelin in 1987) and Yves Thuriès (Musée de l’Art du Sucre and author of numerous publications). 
 
In this year’s jubilee edition of the fair were once more featured the Risottomania competition, the Trophée des Délices de la Méditerranée, Concours International des Vins de Gastronomie, Grand Concours de Packaging and many more. 
 
Participating wines for this 1st edition of the Concours International des Vins de Gastronomie competition came primarily from traditional wine-producing nations such as France, Italy and Spain and also Australia, USA and South Africa. All the greater surprise then to discover among the victors a Moravian winery from Velké Pavlovice! Out of a total of just three gold medals awarded Radomil Baloun received one Gold Star for his Muškát Moravský (Moravian Muscat) 2011, with the other two going to the Clos du Château d’Isenbourg (Châteaux et Terroirs) from Alsace for their Gewurztraminer 2010 Les Tourelles and 2009 Les Troubadours. The Baloun Winery once again featured among the 13 silver medals awarded, with no fewer than three Silver Stars, for his Riesling, Grüner Veltliner and Gewurztraminer, all from vintage 2011. 
 
The competition organiser, Paul Obadia (general manager of the AGECOTEL fair), Régine Le Coz (oenologist) and Dominique Milardi (head sommelier, AS Monaco) commented on the tremendous success of this first edition, in which the evaluating juries marked with great professionalism and very evenly, and all are already looking forward to next year.

Unprecedented success for Moravian wines in the new international competition for  “Gastronomic“ wines

The evaluation committee met in the tasting room of the National Wine Centre in Valtice on the 7th and 8th of February to assess the quality of the wines that are possible to meet on the Central European market. The entered wines were international, as well as the wine tasting committee. The wine tasters that arrived to rate the wines were from Moravia and Bohemia, Slovakia, Hungary, and neighbouring Austria, even an Australian sat in one wine tasting chair. 
 
323 wine samples from 12 European and non-European countries competed for the prestigious award from the competition. The domestic wines had the largest representation, then Slovak and Austrian wines, wines from Hungary, Moldova, France, Spain, Germany, Italy were presented as well, and also wines from distant Australia, New Zealand and Chile. The modern computer system for rating wines produced by the National Wine Centre provided professionalism, maximum objectivity of evaluation and comfort for the evaluators. 
 
"The selection of the champion was very interesting and balanced. The winning Pinot Gris of Znovín was "hotly pursued," by, for instance, the Slovak Veterlín from Elesko, Hungarian Tokai and our other wines, like Chardonnay from Richard Tichý, Italian Riesling from Ondřej Havran or cuvée Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon from Jožka Valihrach," said competition director, Pavel Krška.

This year's 19th year is the second in order organized by the National Wine Centre o.p.s. in cooperation with the Exhibition Centre Brno and the Winemakers union of the Czech Republic. Compared to last year, despite lower yields of grapes for this year's flagship competition 2010 (the wines from last year, 2011, could not attend according to the statute) the competitions were attended by more wines from more countries and more applicants. 
The original prizes from the workshop of world-famous artist Bořek Šípek were prepared this year for the champion, the holder of the best wine collection and the category winners. Same as last year the newly set limit for awarding medals awarded according to the number of points (not only by wine position in the category) and their number did not exceed 30% of the attended wines. All this confirms the prestige and importance of the international wine competition, GRAND PRIX VINEX, before its 20th anniversary year next year. 
 
It will be possible to become familiar with the wines from this year again at SALIMA/VINEX exhibition on 28.2. – 2.3.2012 at the Brno Exhibition Centre, which will include the award ceremony and awards. A catalogue with complete results, including awarded medals and other information about the competition, will be publish on this occasion.

19th year of the International Wine Competition GRAND PRIX VINEX 2012 has its Champion

In addition to the publication of hundreds of wines with the title "Wine Salon of the ČR 2012" the awards for Champion of the Wine Salon – The National Wine Competition 2012, the winners of each category and the best collection of the competition were also handed over to the winemakers. 
 
The main results of the competition 
 
The absolute champion of the competition for the year 2012 and also the winner of the dry and semi-dry white wines category was Italian Riesling 2009, a selection of grapes from Vinné sklepy Valtice a.s. with an origin in the wine village of Dolní Dunajovice and the Kraví hora vine track. 
 
The Cabernet Sauvignon barrique 2006, late harvest, also from the company Vinné sklepy Valtice a.s., was evaluated as the best among the red wines. 
 
The jury agreed on the Chardonnay 2010, late harvest from the winery Vinařství Mikrosvín Mikulov a.s., in the category of white semi-sweet wines. 
 
The best in the category sweet wines was won by the straw wine Chardonnay 2004 of the winemaker Oldřich Drápal. 
 
From the rosé wines and claret jury Pinot Noir Rosé 2010, late harvest from the winery Vinařství Plešingr, s.r.o. was chosen. 
 
The category of quality sparkling wines was won by the Bohemia Sekt Prestige demi sec 2009 from the company Bohemia Sekt, s.r.o. 
 
The prize for the best wine collection was awarded to the company ZNOVÍN ZNOJMO a.s. 
 
The awards for the best wine according to the visitors' votes in the last collection of 2011 were also announced, it was the late harvest Sylvaner 2009 from company Moravíno s.r.o. 
 
The best winery according to the visitors' votes of 2011 was declared as company Vinselekt Michlovský, a.s. 
 
 
About the wines in the Wine Salon 
 
62 white wines, 34 red wines, 2 rosé wines and 2 sparkling wines were selected for the collection in the representation ratio. The varietal mix includes 25 varieties of vine and 2 cuvée wines. The most successful varieties of this year were Pinot Gris with 11 representations, Rhine Riesling and Sauvignon with 8 representations, Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon with 7 representations and Traminer and Pinot Blanc with 6 representations. According to the classification of quality are 54 wines in the late harvest, 20 wines in the selection of grapes, 9 quality wines and 3 ice, straw, regional and VOC wines, 2 selections of berries, 1 liquor and cabinet wine. 
 
The most represented years are 2009 with 44 wines and 2010 with 40 wines. The oldest wine is from 2004. The greatest number of wine samples in the Wine Salon was reached by wine-growing sub-region Mikulovská with 29 wines, then wine-growing sub-region Slovácká and Velkopavlovická with 23 wines, wine-growing sub-region Znojemská with 20 wines and wine-growing sub-region Mělnická with 2 wines. 
 
The most successful companies this year were: ZNOVÍN ZNOJMO a.s. and Zámecké vinařství Bzenec s.r.o. with 10 wines, Vinařství MIKROSVÍN a.s. and Habánské sklepy, spol. s r.o. with 6 wines, Vinné sklepy Valtice a.s. with 5 wines, then Vinum Moravicum a.s., Vinselekt Michlovský a.s., Štěpán Maňák and PATRIA Kobylí a.s. with 4 wines. 41 wine companies in total will supply the Wine Salon exhibition.

Patronage 
 
The patronage of the Wine Salon – The National Wine Competition in 2012 - was undertaken, just like last year, by Czech President Václav Klaus, who had also visited the wine tasting exhibition of the Wine Salon of the CR previously. The President's wife, Mrs. Livia Klausová, also personally took part in the awards of the Wine Salon of the ČR in 2011. 
 
New for this year 
 
New for this year are the aromatic profiles and profiles of power and structure of wines that complement the verbal wine evaluation, they are placed on the descriptive panels of individual wines in the tasting exhibition. 
 
"We have tried to make accessible the countless nuances in flavour, fragrance and other manifestations of wine to the widest number of consumers and visitors of the Wine Salon tasting exhibition by this move. We have seen a noticeable shift in their interest for a deeper understanding of wine, they want more information about exhibited and tasted wines, and we strive for a well understandable and acceptable form even for a complete layman," said Ing. Pavel Krška, director of the National Wine Centre, explaining the reasons for the extension of information about the displayed wine. 
 
Short presentations focusing on rosé wines in the spring, wines produced by traditional methods and in the summer young wines awarded at domestic and international competitions will be held in the Wine Salon this year. 
About the competition and the Wine Salon of the ČR 
 
From 1,258 wine samples 464 best wines of 85 wine companies were selected in the opening rounds of the competition of wine assessment in the wine-growing sub-regions Velkopavlovická, Mikulovská, Slovácká and Znojemská, and the wine-growing region Bohemia in the National Wine Competition. They entered the first national competition round. The top 200 made it to the 2nd round, where the 100 best came out awarded with the title The Wine Salon of the Czech Republic, the absolute champion was declared, and also the winners of each category and the title for the best collection of the entire competition. 
 
Selection of tasters and evaluation system 
 
The best of our tasters sit in the competition committees every year, they are, along with the latest computer system, multi-round evaluation and OIV standards, the guarantee of the objectivity and selection of the best wines from Moravia and Bohemia. The National Wine Centre is also the only one in the ČR that has its own system for the further training and evaluation of tasters - holders of European taster tests, according to ČSN-ISO standards. 
 
Tasting exhibition opening hours and tasting programmes 
 
Saturday, 25th of February 2012 is the first day of permanent opening hours for the public that will be regularly from Tuesday to Saturday (in the tourist season also on Sundays) until the end of January 2013. Visitors can choose from several types of tasting programmes – either so-called "open tasting", some of the tasting programmes guided by a sommelier (for groups), or tasting from the tasting machine "By The Glass".
