Resort Valtberg N48
The buildings and wine cellars have undergone a major renovation, cleaning and refurbishment, the result of which shows how profoundly the site has been affected by decades of neglect. We can now proudly say that the Valtberg N48 Resort celebrates its original purpose and now offers a very original and highly comfortable environment for lovers of good wine, food, culture and sport.
Records of Kopecna Street date back to at least the end of the 14th century, when Valtice consisted of a church and several buildings that formed a walled and moated centre. At that time, Kopečná Street was located in close proximity to these walls and together with the neighbouring buildings completed the suburb.
The Vineyard House then bore the number 49, which was changed to number 48 in the 1870s. This was done on the occasion of the merging of the town into one unit and the renumbering of all the buildings. The original plaque on the front façade points to this event. The oldest part of the house - the wine cellar with the pressing room - dates back to the 17th century, when the town experienced a considerable building boom under the Liechtenstein family.
Valtice has always been a strategic and, above all, militarily busy place and has therefore undergone many changes. One of the greatest disasters to hit the Vineyard House was the extensive fire in the town's bakery in 1801, after which the necessary reconstruction was carried out. The fire is commemorated by a plaque on the front of the house. In the following decades, the building was not substantially changed, the owners changed and further alterations were made only in the second half of the 20th century. As the buildings were large, it was not easy to keep them in good condition, and so they gradually deteriorated, the cellars were covered in metres of mud, and by the late 1960s there was a lack of even the most basic resources to make the house fully habitable.
The house was given great honour when it was listed on the State Register of Historic Places in November 1983. After the death of the last owners, the survivors sold ownership of the building to a company in 2014, ending its private use. However, thanks to this, a complete reconstruction of the entire building and the immediate surroundings could be started. This gave it back its well-deserved representative appearance and allowed it to be used again with dignity and to further develop its potential.
