The Kraus winery in Mělník is a family-owned company located at the confluence of the Elbe and Vltava rivers. Interest in winemaking is inherited in the Kraus family. The tradition was started by Prof. Ing. Vilém Kraus, CSc., who devoted himself to breeding new grape varieties. His son, Doc. Ing. Vilém Kraus, CSc., founded the company Vinařský dům Bacchus in the 1990s, which is mainly dedicated to the production of vine seedlings, grape and table grape varieties. After returning from his studies in Germany, the youngest Vilém continues the tradition and follows his father's activity with another company - Mělnické vinařství Kraus. He plants more vineyards and starts his own wine production and bottling. The grapes are harvested from his own vineyards of 22 hectares.
Pinot Gris is known all over the world. Pinot comes from the French pin as the pine cone resembles the shape of a pinot grape. Pinot Gris is also interesting by the fact that although it is a white wine, the color of the grape is almost blue, more precisely gray-blue-red. It is widespread in all sub-areas, mostly in the Velkopavlovice region.
