About winemaker

The Krejčiřík family winery is a classic example of the passing of traditions from one generation to the next and the shift in views on winemaking in the passing of this generational baton. Radek Krejčiřík has been making his own wine since he was fifteen years old, he is not a winemaker by profession, but he gained his first experience as a child from his parents. After becoming independent, he bought a house with a cellar, and since 2000 he has been producing wine mainly for his friends, but gradually he started to focus on quality, bottling, and expanding production capacity. The winery uses grapes from two hectares of its own and rented vineyards in the lines of Staré hory and Sudný, and also gets some of the raw materials from family members. The area of the original family vineyards is gradually increasing slightly. The winery uses a mixture of classical and modern methods in the vinification of the cellar, which was expanded in 2007. Most of it is fermented with selected yeasts and fermented using cooling and heating, but the André and Frankovka varieties, for example, are fermented in open vats and do not undergo malolactic fermentation, but take the longest time to mature before bottling. The production phase takes place mostly in stainless steel, Radek Krejčiřík uses wooden barrels for the maturation of white and red wines in the centuries-old family cellar. The family winery relies on the help of his parents Matylda and Jan, his wife Petra, and nowadays also his children Radek (9) and Dominik (5), the older of whom drives the tractor in the vineyard and moves confidently in the cellar. 95% of the annual production of around 6 000 bottles is sold directly from the cellar, for simplicity's sake as land wines. Prices do not exceed CZK 140. The winery doesn't organise any classic sit-down tours, but is open to anyone who wants to come and taste the wine, talk about it and spend a pleasant time with it. There is accommodation for visitors in four rooms with a maximum capacity of 20 beds (including extra beds) right in the wine yard.

Basic characteristics of wine

Sauvignon belongs among the most popular three white wines together with the Chardonnay and Riesling varieties. It is assumed that it comes from the French region of Bordeaux or from the Loire region. The most typical Sauvignons can be found in the Znojmo or Mikulov region.
