About winemaker

The small winery of Marie and Václav Surman and their son Václav continues in Bořetice for the fifth generation in the cultivation of grapes and wine production in the reconstructed cellar of their ancestors connected with another cellar. Soon after 1990, after the restitution of the family land, they planted new vineyards and turned the long-standing vineyard winemaking into a trade, whose owner is Marie Surmanová. However, cellar management is the domain of her husband, who is also the mayor of Bořetice. The combined cellars are located in an attractive location of the cellar alley on Kraví hora. The short underground corridor of the original cellar has been used to produce and store wine for the fifth generation of the Surman family. The spacious press room, where the current owner's ancestors processed their crops, has been converted into a presentation room with seating and a bar decorated with the owner's wine and hunting trophies. The raw materials for wine production come from the vineyards in the Čtvrtě and Trkmanská vineyards and from purchases from contract winegrowers. The wines are mostly declared as regional, but the quality of the grapes reaches up to the selection of the grapes (since 2008 some lots have been classified). Depending on the grape variety, the wines are produced either by controlled fermentation or by traditional methods. Barrique barrel-aged wines are also available. Bottled wine is only sold from the cellar, or at events organised for chartered groups. The aim of this winery is not to increase production capacity, but rather to develop the most wine-friendly technologies and to organise tastings and events for corporate and private clients in a cellar that can seat up to 80 people. A speciality is the roasting of piglets. Among the highlights of the production are Veltliner and Riesling and, of course, the traditional varieties of the Blue Mountains - André and Blue Portugal. The best wines from the 2010 vintage include Sauvignon, Riesling and Zweigeltrebe, earthy wines made from grapes with a sugar content of over 21 degrees.

Basic characteristics of wine

Gewürztraminer or Traminer rot is white wine. More precisely, it is a variety of white wine. So why is it called red? This is due to the reddish colour of the grapes. It is grown in all sub-areas, most of which can be found in the Velkopavlovice, Bzenec, Mikulov or Čáslav or Most regions. As with Pálava, Traminer will show its beauty, aroma and spiciness especially in the dry version.
