Wines from the Czech Republic for the first time together at the London International Wine Fair

This year for the first time Moravian and Bohemian wines will be presented together on the National stand of the wines from the Czech Republic at the prestigious London International Wine Fair in Great Britain on May 12 – 14. The LIWF is one of the most important world wine fairs.

The National stand of wines from CR will be organised by the National Wine Centre with the support of the Wine Fund of the Czech Republic. Besides these organisations four wineries from CR will participate at the fair – BOHEMIA SEKT, a.s., Moravské vinařské závody with their subsidiary company Mikrosvín Mikulov, Templářské sklepy – wine cooperative and the Skoupil Winery. Despite the fact that some exhibitors individually took part in the LIWF in the past, this year for the first time we will have a real National stall of wines from CR, comparable with the national stalls of other advanced wine-growing countries.
Last year more than 1 300 exhibitors took part in the LIWF and almost 15 thousand viticulture experts visited it. This year the fair will be held in the new exhibition centre ExCeL in the Docklands in London.

The National Wine Centre with the Winegrowers’ Fund with this presentation follow the successful promotion of Moravian and Bohemian wines at the fairs abroad that were recently hold in Krakow (Poland), Bratislava (Slovakia) and that are planned in Düsseldorf (Germany) and in London.
Further these organisations provide a common presentation of wines from CR at the international wine competitions – in 2008 they sent 772 wine samples to 14 most prestigious world competitions, where they won 380 medals and awards.
“Wine has had its tradition in Moravia already since the Romans in the 3rd century. Together with Bohemian wines they were famous in Europe already from Middle Ages. During the last ten years the wines from Moravia and Bohemia went through a big qualitative development and today they rightfully belong among the best in Europe. Moravian and Bohemian wines are characterised by their interesting spectrum of aroma, rich extractive agents and a harmonic merge of a full taste with fresh acids of white wines. Lately, red Moravian and Bohemian wines get ahead, they are full-bodied and distinct thanks to modern processing technology, and still smooth and velvety with an outstanding pleasant fruity aroma,” said Mr Pavel Krška from the National Wine Centre.

www.vinarskecentrum.cz / www.vinarskyfond.cz
Národní vinařské centrum, o.p.s. (The National Wine Centre) is a non-profit organisation situated in the Valtice Chateau. Its objective is the promotion and support of wine and viticulture of the Czech Republic, not only with the help of the competition and wine-tasting exposition of the Wine Salon of CR, but also via expert literature publishing, organising training courses and seminars as well as general promotion of Moravian and Bohemian wines in close cooperation with the Winegrowers’ Fund of the Czech Republic.
Vinařský fond (The Wine Fund) was established in 2002 on the basis of a change of the “Wine Act”. Prior to the entry of CR into EU its objective was to support planting of new vineyards in the wine-growing regions Moravia and Bohemia; nowadays it supports only wine marketing, wine tourism development and informs public about wine-growing and wine-making. The Winegrowers’ Fund works on similar basis as organisations in other European wine-growing countries.
