35 Moravian and Bohemian wines in "1000 Vins du Monde"

“Moravian and Bohemian wines have been reaching the upper echelons in the world’s most prestigious competitions with ever growing intensity, so we’ve had somewhat of an expectation that sooner or later they would also find their way into 1000 Vins du Monde. But perhaps none of us had dared to hope that it would be thirty-five wines all at once,” says Pavel Krška, director of the National Wine Centre, commenting on the arrival of recognition of world-class wine making in Moravia and Bohemia.

The committee choosing the world’s top wines for 1000 Vins du Monde were most impressed with the wineries Baloun with seven wines, Krist (6 wines), Moravské vinařské závody (4 wines) and Víno Mikulov and Bohemia Sekt with three wines each.

“It’s very good news that our winemakers didn’t earn recognition only in our strong category of dry white wines. Instead, they were also able to attract attention with selected harvest wines, ice wines and straw wines, as well as in the category of sparkling wines. It has turned out that they have managed to make special wines that are also among the best in the world,” said Pavel Krška in providing more details.
