ProWein Trade Fair will present Czech and Moravian wines to the world

This year, our winemakers will set out for the eighth time to present their wines and winegrowing art to the world trade fair ProWein taking place, as usual, in the German city of Düsseldorf from 24th to 26th March. Thanks to financial support provided by the Winegrowers’ Fund and organizational assistance of National Wine Centre, Czech wines will be present amongst world wine-producing superpowers.

The biggest winemaker in the Czech Republic – BOHEMIA SEKT, s.r.o. – will introduce its products at this year’s ProWein, accompanied by NOVÉ VINAŘSTVÍ, a.s. – one of the most modern winegrowers focusing on high quality of wines as well as attractive design, and an ambitious family winegrowing business, VINOFOL.

“The ProWein trade fair is one of the most prestigious wine-related shows in the world. Participating in such enterprise is very attractive for our winegrowers businesswise,” commented mgr. Pavel Večeřa of the Winegrower’s Fund on this year’s Czech participation. The Fund organizes a common stand for winemakers from the Czech Republic and prepares the presentations of all our wines together with individual businesses’ representatives and the National Wine Centre.

This year should mark a change in the overall philosophy of the show. The number of participants grew significantly last year and ProWein will welcome visitors in two additional halls organized according to a new layout based on presented regions. This means a new place for the Czech stand; it will now be in hall no. 6 dedicated to wines from Germany and Central Europe.

Same as previous years, visitors can look forward to a packed program consisting largely of wine-tasting. Each day, our stand will invite attendants to a different presentation described in the official program. Our presentations have always drawn big crowds.

• 24. 3. 2:00 PM – Czech Republic wines: tasting of typical Moravian and Bohemian wines
• 25. 3. 11:00 AM – The best of... or tasting of ten samples from the prestigious wine portfolio consisting of one hundred wines of the Czech Republic’s Wine Salon
• 26. 3. 11:00 AM – New Moravian wines: exploring the new varieties from Moravia (Pálava, Muškát moravský, Aurelius etc.)

ProWein is one of the biggest and most important wine trade fairs in the world. More participants are showcasing their products every year, with this year’s forecast of up to 4,500 businesses from around 50 countries and over 40,000 expert visitors from all over the world. About 80 per cent of the participants come from abroad. This enables ProWine to present a valuable overview of the entire world’s wine production, demonstrating on a single occasion the course the entire industry is taking. Winemakers generally consider attending the show highly viable with 95 per cent of participants stating reaching their goals and generally favoring the trade fair. About 1,000 different wines are offered for tasting each year.

Participating winemakers’ profiles

BOHEMIA SEKT, s.r.o. (www.bohemiasekt.cz)

BOHEMIA SEKT is the biggest winemaker in the Czech Republic. Its unique products gained the firm the highest Czech award “Winemaker of the year” in 2011. The award recognized the company’s professional work, quality sources, support of winemaking education and wine tourism. BOHEMIA SEKT has been steadily bringing medals also from other domestic and foreign competitions.
BOHEMIA SEKT has been growing on both Czech and world market in the last years. As of today, the company exports its products to 28 countries, which is an unparalleled achievement in the Czech Republic. Every year, the company enters new markets.
The company’s success is based upon high quality of sparkling and other wines as well as liquors, modern technologies and years of experience of the best Czech winemakers.
BOHEMIA SEKT is the leader of domestic market as far as sparkling wines are concerned and it has been steadily growing in the field of non-sparkling Moravian wines. It is certainly no wonder, because the BOHEMIA SEKT group includes – apart from the traditional Bohemia Sekt – prestigious brands such as Víno Mikulov, Habánské sklepy, Vinařství Pavlov, Chateau Mikulov, Chateau Bzenec and Bzenecká lipka.

NOVÉ VINAŘSTVÍ, a.s. (www.novevinarstvi.cz)

NOVÉ VINAŘSTVÍ is one of the most advanced winegrowers in the Czech Republic, especially thanks to modern methods of growing and producing wine, and stressing package quality just as the quality of the drink itself. Nové Vinařství was the first in the Czech Republic to use modern screw caps and later also glass closures VINO-LOK. The company gained the award for “Managerial achievement in the field of design” in 2007, acknowledging the enormous effort the company put to producing high quality wrappings for its wines.
NOVÉ VINAŘSTVÍ manages 110 hectares of proprietary vineyards along Austrian borders, about 70 km north from Vienna. Nové Vinařství has gained numerous significant international awards over its existence.
Vinařství rodiny Špalkovy (Winery of the Špalek’s family) will also be introduced to visitors in the presentation room of Nové vinařství (Nové winery).

VINOFOL family enterprise (www.vinofol.cz)

VINOFOL started as a family business of brothers Pavel and Richard Foltýn in 1992. The company operates from the wine-producing village of Novosedly, where people have been growing wine since 1552.
One of the major strengths of the firm is the location of its 120 hectares of vineyards divided among four different wine-producing municipalities – Miklulov, Novosedly, Nový Přerov and Pavlov. Of course, every municipality has different soils and sometimes even weather. This provides for a more colorful and interesting offer of wines.
However, quality of the wines is what matters most and that is where the focus of the operation is. VINOFOL’s philosophy is to observe latest trends of production and gastronomy. On the other hand, VINIFOL never forgets the vast experience of winegrowers of old, who could not rely on modern technologies and produced quality wines using their ingeniousness and understanding the potential of the soil they were working. Choosing wine varieties best suited for the given terroir and storing wines in wooden barrels of French oak are good examples of such approach. VINOFOL is taking the right path, as evidenced by various awards from both domestic and foreign shows. Growing interest in VINOFOL’s products among consumers, however, remains the brightest evidence of the quality of its wines.

Wine Fund / National Wine Centre
www.vinarskyfond.cz / www.vinarskecentrum.cz

The Winegrowers’ fund was established in 2002 after the “Winemaking Act” was amended. The fund supported starting new vineyards in the wine-producing regions of Moravia and Bohemia before the Czech Republic became a member of the European Union. Today, the Fund specializes in wine marketing, development of wine tourism and informs the public about winegrowing in general. The Fund’s activities are similar in other wine-producing European countries.
The National Wine Center is a non-profit organization headquartered in Valtice chateau. The Centre’s aim is to promote and support Moravian and Czech wines and viticulture via the Wine Salon of the Czech Republic and publishing expert literature, organizing workshops etc. The National Wine Centre closely collaborates with the Winegrowers’ Fund of the Czech Republic.
