Thirteen wineries have already had a taste of what it's like to become the very best in the industry. The fourteenth will find out this Thursday, 1 February, when the results of the prestigious Winery of the Year 2023 and Art of Wine competitions will be announced. As usual, the announcement will also be available to watch online from 6pm.
The gala evening with the announcement of the results of the competition will again be hosted by the Brno Observatory and Planetarium. Under the baton of moderator and great wine lover Marek Eben, the name of the absolute winner will be announced, as well as the winners of the small, medium and medium categories. and large wineries, which in 2023 most fulfilled the main idea of the competition, i.e. to surpass the common practice in the field and to push it forward. The entire awards ceremony will also be streamed online at www.vinarstviroku.cz, YouTube or the competition' s Facebook page.
"Our competition has come a long way in fourteen years, but the finalists themselves have come an even more difficult way. Firstly, to get their wineries in exceptional shape and find the courage to enter, and secondly to make it through to the finals. The final is already a great success and proof that their journey is on the right track. The winner and the other awards have then gone the furthest on their journey. But as I know our winemakers, they never reach the finish line, because no matter how far they are, they are always inventing, improving, finding ways even where there seemingly are none. And this is what pulls the whole industry forward and this is the reason why every year we again look for and publicly thank the biggest drivers," said PhDr. Martin Chlad, President of the Union of Winemakers of the Czech Republic.
In addition to the announcement of the winners in the three competition categories and the absolute winner, the LOMAX Enologist of the Year Award, the Achievement of the Year Award, the Prof. Vilém Kraus, CSc. for an outstanding wine personality for his/her lifetime contribution to the field of viticulture or winemaking and also the MENDELU Faculty of Horticulture Students Award.
