The official results of the seventh edition of the international wine competition Femmes et Vins du Monde (Women and Wine of the World), which took place on 26th April 2013 in the conference centre of the Hotel Columbus, Port de Fontvieille, Monaco, have now been officially published and, as every year, our wine producers have much reason to celebrate.
As the title of this prestigious contest implies, only women taste in Monaco every year, with the juries specifically composed in several groups – collèges – as follows:
• Oenology (always the committee president);
• Production;
• Sales/PR/Distribution;
• Formation/Media/Sommelerie;
• Lay public, so-called Découverte Grand Public Oenophile, which means a lady wine lover.
Marking is in accordance with the 100-point system following the rules of the O.I.V. and only 30 % of all wines entered may receive medals.
41 tasters of 22 different nationalities (Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Columbia, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Monaco, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Ukraine, Uruguay, USA and Venezuela) assessed nearly 300 wine samples, awarding a total of 105 medals, of which 2 were diamond, 34 gold and 49 silver. The competition was attended by wines from 21 countries: Australia, Austria, Chile, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Spain, South Africa, Switzerland and USA. 35 % of the samples came from France with the remaining 65 % having arrived from abroad.
Two diamond medals Nova de Diamant were awarded, one of which went to the well-known producer from Germany, Weingut Anselmann for their 2012 Siegerrebe, while the other was received by GATT Wines from Australia for their Old Vines Shiraz 2010. The entries from the Czech Republic so delighted the tasting juries that they were able to take home six gold medals Nova d’Or and five silver Nova d’Argent. As every year, the competition was attended by Vinařství Baloun from Velké Pavlovice who was joined this time round by Vinařství Krist of Milotice. The medalled wines were:

Parallel to Femmes et Vins du Monde another competition took place in the Galerie Marlborough in the port of Monaco. This is the Femmes et Spiritueux du Monde (Women and Spirits of the World) competition, which happens every other year. This biennale regularly counts on only spirits of supreme quality, such as malt whisky, brandy, cognac, armagnac and so forth. This year the diamond diploma went to Lepanto brandy de Jerez Solera Gran Reserva from the bodegas of González Byass. A further 6 gold and 4 silver medals were also awarded.
