Just as gourmets have their Michelin Guide, so wine lovers have their very own specialised publication. This prestigious guide to the world's best wines goes under the title 1000 Vins du Monde (1000 Wines of the World) and year after year confirms how Moravian and Bohemian wines never fail to get in among the world's elite. The professional tasters who choose these thousand greatest wines this year sent 26 Moravian wines to the hall of fame.
Moravian and Bohemian wines are well used to bringing precious metal home every year from a multitude of prestigious foreign world-wine competitions and for the wider public these medals on the bottles serve as a guarantee of quality. Other than medals on bottles the 1000 Vins du Monde is a guide as to how to navigate oneself around the ample selection of wines on offer from Moravian and Czech wine producers."Czech winemakers rate inclusion in the 1000 Vins du Monde publication very positively. From the business point of view the publication brings with it an upsurge in interest in the wines of those winemakers mentioned therein, while for the Czech Republic as a whole this is yet further confirmation of the universally high quality with which our wines are regarded both at home and overseas," is how the director of the National Wine Centre, Pavel Krška, commented on yet another grand success for our wines. The National Wine Centre organised and guaranteed the participation of our wines in the competition.
As is traditional, the greatest number of wines included in the guide, being a total of 246, come from the competition's host country – France. In comparison with other wine superpowers, however, the Czech Republic has plenty to feel proud of. Italy, for instance, has only 17 wines in the guide, Argentina 9, while Australia has but 3. Our neighbour Slovakia on the other hand managed a very creditable 22 wines.
1000 Vins du Monde comes out in tandem with the 20th edition of the prestigious international wine contest Vinalies Internationales, in which Czech wines regularly participate with the financial support of the Wine Fund.
