Wimbledon among winemakers reports record number of wines!

On 9 and 10 May, lovers of this noble beverage from the Czech Republic and beyond will gather in the wine capital of Valtice. The 58th edition of the popular national wine exhibition - Valtice Wine Market 2025 - will take place here. The more than 100-year tradition will also set a new record this year. Winemakers from all over the world have entered the largest number of samples ever, a record 759. The event, rightly called the wine Wimbledon, is organised by the Valtice Wine Market in cooperation with the Secondary Wine School in Valtice.

The Valtice Wine Market is held annually in May in the renovated riding hall and the Spanish Stables of the Valtice Castle, which give the whole event an unforgettable backdrop and atmosphere. Nearly 6,000 visitors regularly come to taste the wines of thepic level from all over the Czech Republic as well as from abroad, which have succeeded in the competition of the same name.

"We are very pleased with the interest in the Valtice Wine Market in the form of 122 wine companies from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but also from Austria, Germany, Italy, Chile, Argentina, Australia and Croatia. The number of samples, which is one of the largest in the more than 100-year history of this competition, is very sympathetic, but not decisive. The main thing is quality, and I believe that this year we will also see high quality wines from all over the world that will duke it out in the grand final for the title of Valtice Wine Market Champion," said David Št'astný, chairman of Valtice Wine Market, and added: "Thank you very much to everyone for their interest in this wonderful competitive exhibition, especially at a time when weThis is a great opportunity for our traditional industry, which cares for the countryside and nature, to face huge challenges. It is not only the recurrent devastating frosts that are affecting it, but also the efforts of some people to simply not support traditional viticulture in the country."

Most of the wines entered are from the 2024 vintage, namely 318 samples. The second place is taken by the 2023 vintage with 254 samples. The oldest in this year's competition is the 2009 vintage. Among the wine varieties, the dominant one is Riesling, whose winemakers submitted a total of 79 samples.

Wine show on 9 and 10 May at Valtice Castle

The show of the best wines will also be accompanied by a rich cultural programme, for example several dulcimer musicians in the chateau premises. There will also be an accompanying gastronomic offer. Do not miss this major wine festival.

The Valtice Wine Market is held annually as one of the most prestigious exhibitions in the country and in Europe under the patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture, the South Moravian Region, the Senate of the Czech Republic, the towns of Valtice and Břeclav and with the support of the Wine Fund, SZIF and other important partners.
