On Friday 28 March, the 27th edition of the prestigious Pardubice Wine Festival took place in the Blanc de Noir wine bar in Pardubice, this time focusing exclusively on the Pálava variety. A total of 74 wines from the Czech Republic and Slovakia were entered into the competition. The whole event took place under the professional auspices of the Association of Tasters of the Czech Republic under the leadership of its vice-president Jiří Dunovský.
The competition was inaugurated by the festival manager Jiří Lejhanec, who was also responsible for the organization of the concurrent evaluation committee. This committee was given a unique opportunity to experience what it is like to evaluate all 74 competition samples in one day.
The jury awarded a total of 8 Grand Gold Medals and 20 Gold Medals. Interestingly, among the entries there were also 15 dry variants of the Pálava variety, of which 2 won a Grand Gold Medal and 4 a Gold Medal. This result confirms the growing popularity of dry wines from this variety (usually perceived as sweeter), which is great news for dry wine lovers.
The absolute winner of the competition was Pálava 2024 VzH, track Pod Státní, Bavory from Winery ENTRÉE Mikulov, and in the category of dry wines the winner was Pálava VzH 2022, Horní Věstonice from Volařík Mikulov Winery. However, the Pálava wines from Slovakia also had great results, taking home two Grand Gold Medals and two Gold Medals!
The results of the 27th wine competition will be announced at the Pardubice Chateau during the traditional Pardubice Wine Festival at the end of August.
"Lovers of dry wines can also look forward to the fact that the Pálava region is also becoming an interestingPálava is not just a variety of sweet wines," said Jiří Lejhanec on behalf of the organising agency Czech Marketing.
