Absolute winner 13. of the prestigious industry competition VINOZOOM WINERY OF THE YEAR, and officially the best winerylast year was the winery Jindřich Kadrnka, which also won in the category of small wineries. In the medium winery category, THAYA winery succeeded and in the large winery category BOHEMIA SEKT.
The name of the absolute winner and other award winners was traditionally announced on the stage of the Brno Observatory and Planetarium under the direction of moderator Mark Eben. The small family winery of Jindřich Kadrnka from Březí in the Mikulov region, which is especially famous for its regionalIt is the first time that it has been nominated for the competition this year and is celebrating its highest success. They are particularly proud of their vineyards, which they consider to be the most valuable and important element of wine production. They have also decided to go the route of truly dry wines, overwhelmingly free of the imaginary rounding residual sugar.
13th overall champion of the competition
"Huge joy, huge satisfaction, huge surprise and huge thanks to my whole family, without whom I wouldn't be here today, making wine. But most importantly, our winery would not have won three incredibly beautiful awards," said a touched Jindřich Kadrnka, owner of the winning winery of the same name, immediately after the announcement.
The medium winery category was dominated by THAYA winery, from the village of Havraníky near Znojmo. In the category of large wineries, the winery BOHEMIA SEKT won the first place. In addition to the main prizes, the organizers also awarded the prizes "LOMAX Enologist of the Year 2022 " - the prize for a young winemaker, enologist under 40 years of age, which was won by Ing. Kamil Prokeš, Ph.D. The prize for the "Act of the Year 2022" was awarded to the South Moravian Region for naming its 37 new trains after the names of grape varieties grown in the Czech Republic. The "Prof. Vilém Kraus, CSc. Award" for an outstanding wine personality for his/her lifetime contribution in the field of viticulture or winemaking was awarded to Doc. Ing. Marta Hubáčková, DrSc. And this year the "MENDELU Student Award" was also awarded to the winery Jindřich Kadrnka.
The award ceremony was preceded by a three-stage evaluation process, where first a combination of the JUNIOR and SENIOR jury judging got the winery to the final and then the expert jury in a personalvisit to the wineries of all finalists decided which best fulfilled the set criteria and, in particular, fulfilled the main idea of the competition, i.e. to exceed the common practice in the industry and to move it forward in the long term.
9 finalists
Nine wineries competed in the final round. These were the small wineries Plenér, Škrobák and Jindřich Kadrnka. The medium-sized wineries were THAYA vinařství, spol. s r.o., Krásná hora s.r.o. and Vinné sklepy Kutná Hora, s.r.o. And finally the big CHÂTEAU VALTICE - Vinné sklepy Valtice, a.s., ANNOVINO VINAŘSTVÍ LEDNICE s.r.o. and BOHEMIA SEKT, s.r.o.
The winners of the title in the past were the winery Škrobák, Víno J. Stávek, Vinselekt Michlovský, Bohemia Sekt, Hana Mádlová, Znovín Znojmo, Château Valtice - Vinné sklepy Valtice, Zámecké vinařství Bzenec, Vican family winery, REISTEN and twice Sonberk winery.
The competition is announced and the title "Winery of the Year" is awarded by the Union of Winemakers of the Czech Republic in cooperation with the National Wine Centre, with significant support from the Wine Fund of the Czech Republic and the South Moravian Region. The event is organized under the auspices of the Governor Mgr. Jan Grolich and JUDr. Markéta Vaňková, Mayor of the Statutory City of Brno. The general and titular partner is again this year the e-shop with Moravian and Czech wines VINOZOOM. The main partners are Vinolok, a manufacturer of glass closures, and Albert, a long-time supporter of Moravian winemakers, as well as through its own brand sommelier collection, carefully selected wines from Moravia by sommelier Klára Kollárová. Natural mineral water with a unique composition will be supplied by Krondorf. Throughout the competition, wines will be tasted from handmade glasses of the KVĚTNÁ 1794 glassworks. Other partners are J&T Bank, Haier wine shops, Lomax, Vetropack, ACO and S&K LABEL and Gran Moravia. The competition is also supported by the Brno Observatory and Planetarium and the Faculty of Horticulture at Mendel University in Brno.
