As spring approaches, the calendar of international wine competitions is also beginning to fill up. The Vinalies Internationales in Paris is traditionally among the first ones and gives a hint of the results of Moravian and Czech winemakers we can look forward to in the new year. This year's event brought great news in the form of 41 medals, including an impressive nine large gold ones. Participation in the competition was financially supported by the Wine Fund and organised by the National Wine Centre.

Out of a total of 41 medals for Moravian wines, winemakers divided 9 large gold, 23 gold and 9 silver. Three large gold medals were won by Štěpán Maňák winery from Žádovice, two by Krist winery from Milotice and one each by Ing. Miroslav Volařík from Mikulov, CHATEAU VALTICE - Wine Cellars Valtice, Vajbar Winery from Zaječí and Wine Cellars Skalák - Leona Šebestová from Skalka u Ježova. In terms of the number of medals, the most successful was Vinařství Krist, which also added 2 gold and 2 silver medals. The winery Vinné sklepy Skalák - Leona Šebestová was also successful, adding 3 gold and one silver medal to the big gold medal.

9 big gold, 23 gold and 9 silver medals!

"Winning more than 40 medals from one of the most prestigious and respected wine competitions is a great start to the season. This competition is considered by many to be the Mecca of competitions, mainly due to the quality of the judges from around the world. Every success here is therefore of great importance and can well support the efforts of our winemakers to establish themselves on world markets. In total, only 84 major gold medals were awarded at the competition, so we can be extremely satisfied," comments Mgr. Klára Kollárová, National Sommelier, who also participated in the evaluation for the Czech Republic.

Vinalies Internationales is organised by the French Union of Oenologists under the auspices of the O.I.V. (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) and is part of VINOFED (World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirits Competitions). Around 3,000 wines from more than 30 countries participate each year and are judged by 130 world wine experts. The rigour of the judging is also underlined by the limitation of awarding a maximum of 30% of the medals from the number of wines entered.
