Golden Berlin for Moravian and Czech wines!

The most successful of our winemakers was Ing. Miroslav Volařík from Mikulov. His Pálava 2021 selection of onions from the Purmice vineyard line won a large gold medal for the Czech Republic and three more of his wines were awarded a gold medal. Krist winery from Milotice won five gold medals, Bohemia Sekt, Vican Family Winery and Chateau Bzenec won three. The winery of Štěpán Maňák won two gold medals for red wines, including the traditional Frankovka variety of the 2020 vintage.

"The unanimous opinion of all the judges this year was: The quality of all the wines is excellent and exceeds all expectations! The high number of gold medals is therefore no surprise," said JUDr. Luboš Bárta for the Winesupportter initiative."The OIV rules include the requirement that only 30% of the best wines in each category can win a medal. It is this restriction that makes the medals so prized. On the other hand, this unfortunately means that 70% of the wines will be left without an award, despite the fact that their points score would otherwise have secured them at least a silver medal under the points scheme. Our winemakers have suffered forty gold and silver medals below the line this year."

Berlin Wine Trophy 2023 - Winter Tasting

More than 8,300 wines from nearly thirty countries were entered in this year's Berlin Wine Trophy 2023 - Winter Tasting, including 71 wines from the Czech Republic. Over eight days, 230 judges tasted under the strict rules of the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) and the UIOE (International Union of Oenologists) and under the supervision of a notary. " I am proud of you, Moravian winemakers, all day long we were talking about your wines. Finally, Milan Vasicek opened his Sylván in the evening and really put everyone on their ass! " Lucie Šimonová, Pavel Krška, Milan Vašíček and the popular Czech-German sommelier from Rheinbach Radka Pölking also spoke Czech.

TheGolden League is a series of four competitions (Berlin Wine Trophy winter and summer, Asia Wine Trophy and Portugal Wine Trophy). Here, all silver, gold and major gold medals for a calendar year are added up for each entrant. The one who achieves the most medals is then crowned the winner and thus holds the unofficial World Cup of the wine industry.
