Already for the fourth year the wine-makers from the Czech Republic sell their young wines under the common label ST. MARTIN (SVATOMARTINSKÉ), which marketing is supported by the Winegrowers’ Fund. The St. Martin wine will go to shops only on November 11 and the new wine year will be welcomed at many celebrations.
This year more then 800 thousand bottles aim to the shops and restaurants in the Czech Republic and other countries. Wine-makers use the early varieties to make the St. Martin wine. For white wines they use Müller Thurgau and Valtelina Early Red, for pink and red wines Blue Portugal a St. Laurent. The wines, which will be sold under the St. Martin label, have to go through the independent assessment of wine-tasters and have to comply with the required analytic and sensory standards. “It is a guarantee that only quality and verified wines will be sold under this label,” noted director of the National Wine Centre Pavel Krška.
The wine-tasting committee assessed altogether 205 wine samples from Moravian and Bohemian vineyards. “Altogether 83 wineries applied for this annual. 79 white wines, 78 red wines and 48 ink wine samples tried to gain the St. Martin label. From 205 samples the licence will be given to 175 wines from 80 wineries,” adds the exact numbers Marek Babisz, chief sommelier of the National Wine Centre, who looked after the technical course of assessment. Five wineries are from the Bohemia Wine-growing Region and the remaining are from the Moravia Wine-growing Region.
The enclosure of this release provides the list of wines that fulfilled the analytic and sensory criteria and that were awarded the licence of St. Martin label (Svatomartinské) 2008.
