Moravian Winemakers Received the Highest Rated Awards in San Francisco

In just a very brief period our Moravian wine producers have encountered enormous success on the North American continent - this time in San Francisco where, between 15th and 17th June, specialised committees sat in judgement over more than 4,500 samples of wine emanating from all over the world. 115 wines took part from the Czech Republic, out of which 80 received awards (4 great gold, 4 gold, 31 silver and 41 bronze medals).

As last year, the most prestigious prize went to Vinařství Líbal for their Gewurztraminer special selection of grapes 2011, which received a great gold medal, while furthermore being rated the best Gewurztraminer in the contest. Apart from this, Vinařství Líbal also earned a bronze medal for their Moravian Muscat late harvest 2011 and Sauvignon Blanc VOC Znojmo 2011.

“Vinařství Líbal defended their best in category title in San Francisco and took a great gold medal, a feat which none of our winemakers have ever accomplished in any of the prestigious world wine competitions. This success and the growing number of medals being won are the best testimony to the continuing increase in the quality of our winemaking abilities,“ said Ing. Marek Babisz from the National Wine Centre, the body which put in place the organisational resources that led to the participation of our wines, when commenting on the results.

A second great gold medal (for receiving more than 92 points out a possible 100) was awarded to Znovín Znojmo, a. s. for their Gewurztraminer mass wine special selection of berries 2011, while they also received silver for Sauvignon Blanc VOC 2011 and bronze for Pinot Gris straw wine 2009.

Great gold also went to the winery Pavlovín s. r. o. for their Chardonnay special selection of grapes 2011, and this firm were also awarded silver medals for Frankovka Rosé special selection of grapes 2011 and Welschriesling late harvest 2011.

The fourth great gold medal and affiliation to the world wine superclass was given to Ing. Richard Tichý for his Pinot Gris late harvest 2010 along with bronzes for Riesling late harvest 2009 and Pálava special selection of grapes 2010.
