Unprecedented Success for Moravian Wines at the Prestigious Monte-Carlo Competition

Eighteen medals, five of which five being diamond (which is on the same level as great gold) from a total of 20 samples submitted by winemakers from the Czech Republic to the eighth edition of the international wine competition Femmes et Vins du Monde (Women and Wine of the World) which takes place in the Principality of Monaco – nothing like this has ever yet happened!

As the name implies this competition is judged exclusively by women who every year head off to Monte-Carlo from places around the world. The committees are formed from five members coming from a variety of professional occupations, which are known here as collèges. These are: Oenology (as ever the committee presidents), Production, Sale/Distribution, Education/Media/Wine Service and the so-called Découverte Grand Public Oenophile, which translates as female wine lovers. Marking is done in accordance with the 100-point system in line with the rules of O.I.V. and only 30 % of all samples have the right to claim a medal.

The official results of this year's contest, which took place on 15th March 2014 in the conference halls of the Hotel Novotel, Boulevard Princesse Charlotte, Monte-Carlo, will give our wine producers nothing but joy. According to new regulations, which became valid this year at the behest of the organisation Repression des Fraudes, medals may only be awarded in the following forms:
diamond – from 85 points upwards
silver – from 80 to 84.9 points
bronze – from 75 to 79.9 points

Only nine wines received a diamond medal Nova de Diamant. And while the first one went to France (Sancerre Joseph Mellot), the second to Germany (Weingut Anselmann), the third to Romania (Domeniul Coroanei Segarcea) and the eighth to Italy (Giordano Vini), the Tomáš Krist Winery of Milotice won all the rest, a total of five diamonds (all wines coming from vintage 2013).
